Cool Tools

Some useful tools to see what your PCs doing under the hood, easily accessing hardware and operating system information, and lots of other useful info:

Hardware Monitors

Cpu-Z (v1.60.1 - www.cpuid.com)

Analyses and gives full details of the PC hardware components (motherboard, CPU, chipsets, memory, graphics). Lists clock speeds, latencies, hardware specifications and settings. Full hardware diagnostics.

Speccy (v1.16 - www.piriform.com)

Great little Hardware and Operating System monitor. Analyses and gives full details of all installed hardware and operating system settings, and standard process and network run-time information. Doesn't give as much hardware run-time information as the CS Fire Monitor, but gives far more Operating System settings details. Looks very nice and user friendly as well.

CS Fire Monitor 3 (v3.0.1 - www.pcwintech.com)

Detailed real-time hardware monitor. Analyses and gives full details of the hardware and operating system, settings, and run-time information. Monitors: NIC (adapter details, traffic measurements), IP (local and internet IP addresses), CPU (details, usage, speed, features, cache, registers), Drives (hard disk, optical drive, USB flash details, including size, used, available, and more detailed info), Hardware (lists installed hardware components, and device manager info), Memory (real time RAM usage graph, physical, virtual, page file usage), Net Stats (XP only - all current connections ports and programs), Processes (detailed process info giving memory/CPU usage, and kernel running details), Services (detailed info), Software (all currently installed software). Also has task bar tools including mini-monitors, and memory clean. Extensible via plug-ins.

Hardware Monitor (v1.19 - www.cpuid.com)

Hardware Monitor is a hardware monitoring program that reads PC systems main health sensors: Voltages, Temperatures, Fan speeds. It reads the motherboard, main CPU, hard disk drive, graphics card health sensors. It is compatible with all common sensor chips (ITE IT87 series, Winbond ICs, CPU on-die core thermal sensors, and hard drive/graphics card temperatures via S.M.A.R.T).

Speed Fan (v4.4.6 - www.almico.com)

Speed Fan is a program that monitors voltages,  fan speeds and temperatures in PC’s with hardware monitor chips. It can also access SMART info and show HDD and SCSI temperatures. On some hardware it can change the FSB. Speed Fan can access digital temperature sensors and can change fan speeds accordingly, thus reducing noise. and can find almost any hardware monitor chip connected to the 2-wire SMBus (System Management Bus) a subset of the I2C protocol). Works with Windows 9x, ME, NT, 2000, 2003, XP, Vista and Windows 7, 32 and 64 bit.

Driver Monitors

Driver View (v1.40 - www.nirsoft.net/utils/driverview.html)

Scans and lists all installed drivers. Includes windows drivers, hardware and software drivers, and dynamically linked libraries (dlls). Lists all available information on each driver (driver type, version, location, company, product, installed/modified dates). Can filter out/highlight windows/non-windows drivers.

(Try?: MBM, Next Sensor, Mem Tach 93, Nero Info Tool, Cache Booster (Tweak Hard disk caching using configurable profiles), MaxMem (Reserve a minimum RAM reserve, also monitor how much is currently being used))
